Tashi Gomang Retreat Cabins
KTTG has been proud to offer solitary retreats since 1995. Three retreat cabins, located near the Tashi Gomang Stupa, are in full operation all year around. Nestled into the foothills and a short walk to the Stupa, the retreat cabins are built on the sacred land chosen by the Sixteenth Karmapa, where they enjoy a sense of isolation with inspiring views of the San Luis Valley, as well as of the Sangre de Cristo mountains.. The cabins are fully equipped to accommodate retreatants for short or long solitary retreats.
The cabins are built of locally produced pumice-adobe block, deeply insulated, and a warm brick-red color. They are passive solar in design to benefit from our intense regular sunshine. Also equipped with wood-burning stoves, they can be kept comfortable in the harshest of weather. They have two-burner propane cookstoves and a complete set of kitchen utensils, cooking pots, and dishes. Shrines, practice supplies, sitting cushions and prostration boards are available in all cabins, as well as cell phones for emergency calls and solar chargers. Parking for retreatants' cars is at the Stupa parking lot.
Cabin I, Yeshe Chöling, Dharma Park of Wisdom, is very rustic, with vigas and a rough plank ceiling. It is small and is newly eqipped with a refrigerator. There is an outhouse and "solar" shower. As cabin water is from a cistern, retreatants must bring bottled water for drinking.

Cabin II, Döndam Gatsal, Park of Ultimate Truth, is larger, with solar-powered lights, running warm water, drinking water supply and refrigeration. An indoor bathroom includes a composting toilet and shower. This cabin features a sizeable shrine table and is closest to the Stupa.

Cabin III, Sherab Dronma, Lamp of Wisdom, is the most remote and isolated cabin on HH Karmapa's land, commanding a spectacular panoramic view of the valley from its wide picture windows. It is the largest and most modern and contains two separate rooms. The cabin is suitable for long-term solitary retreats (including three-year retreats), couples, and short small-group retreats. Fully solar, with drinking water, refrigeration, indoor toilet and shower, this cabin meets all the needs of the serious retreatant.
Reservations
The Tashi Gomang Retreat Cabins are available on an unsupervised basis at this time. Retreatants are responsible for their own retreat management, however, limited support services may be arranged with the Tashi Gomang retreat coordinator. Attention to the details of preparation and organization of materials and time for the retreat, and efficient maintenance of the cabin during residency, will go a long way to ensuring a positive retreat experience. Items to bring include a flashlight, clock, personal towel, dishtowel, bed sheets, sleeping bag or comforter, size "D" batteries, and paper products. The retreatants will be in solitude within the Rocky Mountain wilderness, but will have access to an emergency cell phone and food drop-off station. All retreatants must complete an emergency information form and sign a release of liability.
